Here are some basic steps to inserting images into your text.

1. Open your background image and add your text (a nice fat font with lots of surface area works best). Make the text the color you want the text outline to be once the image is completed.

2. Render your text layer

3. With the magic wand set to Contiguous, select your first letter. Contract the selection (select > modify > contract) until the area left outside it is the size you want your letter border to be. On this sample, I contracted the selection by 5 pixels.

4. Cut your selected pixels, which will leave just the outline of the letter

5. With your text layer active and the magic wand still set to contiguous, select the inside area of your cutout letter

6. Open the image you want to insert into your letter, select all of it and copy it. Go to your selected letter and choose Paste Into from the Edit drop down menu. Use the move tool and/or Free Transform to position the image in the letter the way you want.

7. Continue the same way until all of your letters are filled
